At Havre-Aubert, on the Magdalen Islands, is this historical expanse of stones and pebbles.
Augustin Lebourdais, the survivor
On November 28, 1871, a terrible storm raged in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.
The next day, a man was found on a beach on the Magdalen Islands, half buried in the snow and ice. It was Augustin Lebourdais, a sailor from L’Islet. The Wasp, on which he was sailing, sank and the 10 other crew members drowned…
He lost both legs because of this tragedy. But he made the Islands his new home and became it first telegrapher.
